Getting
Started
Step 1. (Exercise your mind) First lets take a moment of silence
so we can hear all the excuses of why we cannot create outstanding
healthy habits. Take a step further and journalize our fears somewhere
where we can constantly be reminded why we cannot overcome those
minute self-induced obstacles. Use these friendly reminders as motivational
tools. Our subconscious is our best motivator. Don’t give
up on yourself.
Step 2. (Get to know you) If we were on a job interview, we would
want to know the job description or if we just met someone, we would
also like to know about his or her personality, this also applies
to our wellness. Ask yourselves the following questions. What is
our physical/mental strengths and weaknesses? What challenges
prevents us from exercising? What foods are we most addicted to?
Why do I eat all of the time? Why do I only eat one meal per day?
Get to know your health! Once we know our strengths and weaknesses,
we can now create a plan. Just as we have a financial plan, we also
need a fitness plan. “If we do not plan to succeed, we are
doomed to fail.”
Step 3. (Attitude) “Your attitude affects your attitude”.”
Mind over matter.” “If you can believe it, you can achieve
it”. For some individuals, our attitude needs a major overhaul,
not only in the area fitness, but also at work, relationships, and
family. If we have a bad /negative attitude, we are defeated before
we even get started. Our mind has to say yes before the body is
convinced. Furthermore, our environment, family, work and friends
also affect our attitude. If your surroundings are negative, we
have a tendency to develop those negative traits. We are products of
our environment. Always remember to FIRST Think positive.
Step 4. (Consistency) Finally, but most importantly, be consistent
and committed to achieve our goals. Habits, good or bad are developed
from doing something consistently. The only way to develop good
habits is to practice them consistently. Sometimes we give up right
when physical and mental changes are just about to take place. The
human body will adapt more or less to any stressor. If someone stays
in the sun too long, they tan or become darker. If our body temperature
increases, we begin to sweat. Note: Keep in mind there is a time
factor. Some individuals sweat after 5 minutes. For some of us it
takes all day. The point is we are all different. The secret to
our success is to be consistent and committed to achieve our goals.
If we exercise consistently, we gain muscle, lose fat, reduce our
chance for Type II Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Attacks, Strokes,
Lose of libido. Shall I say any more? Be CONSISTENT, stay POSITIVE,
stay COMMITTED and always CHALLENGE yourself.
